Difference between Vector files and Raster Files

April 13, 2014

What is the difference between vector files and raster files?

Vector files are made up of dots and lines, and can be printed as big as you want without degrading the image.

Raster files are made up of pixels, which distort as you enlarge, and therefore unless designed for print (at least 300dpi at finished print size) these won’t print very well.

When printing signs, we prefer vector files for the best quality if possible1
